TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A total of 36,862 solar panel modules have been installed across rooftops covering 122,783 square meters, or around 12.2 hectares equivalent to 17 times the size of the Gelora Bung Karno soccer field in Jakarta. The 22.5-megawatt (MW) rooftop solar power plant was built by Muliaglass and Muliakeramik Indahraya in cooperation with Xurya Daya Indonesia at the Mulia Industrial Complex in Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, West Java.
Inaugurated in late April 2026, the installation became the largest in Indonesia's commercial and industrial sector. "We hope more industrial players see solar energy as part of a sustainable business strategy," said Eka Himawan, Managing Director of Xurya, during the inauguration.
Other than the industrial sector, the government has also become increasingly enthusiastic about developing solar power generation. President Prabowo Subianto has proposed the construction of 100 gigawatts (GW) of solar power plants (PLTS) across Indonesia as part of an accelerated energy transition. He said the project was intended to expand the use of solar energy nationwide.
The massive project has brought fresh optimism to solar panel manufacturers. Indonesian Solar Module Manufacturers Association Chair I Made Sandika Dwiantara said domestic solar-panel factories are currently operating at only 10 to 20 percent of their production capacity. "Our members are longing for orders to supply national demand," the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Surya Energi Indotama told Tempo during an interview on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
