FIFA Matchday: Indonesia vs. Oman Predictions, Schedule

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian national team will face Oman in a FIFA Matchday fixture at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK Stadium) in Jakarta on Friday night, June 5, 2026. The match, kicking off at 8 p.m. local time, will be broadcast live by Vidio and SCTV, offering the Garuda squad an opportunity to end a 38-year winless streak against their visitors.

Despite playing at home, Indonesia is braced for a grueling test. According to the latest FIFA world rankings, Oman sits at 79th globally, well above Indonesia's 122nd position. Adding to the challenge, the Garuda lineup will be missing their captain and defensive anchor, Jay Idzes.

Indonesian national team coach John Herdman remains optimistic that his squad can secure a positive result in front of a home crowd. He views the encounter with Oman as both a challenge and a chance to shatter a decades-long hoodoo.

"We hope the supporters can pack GBK tomorrow night and give this team their full support. We have not beaten Oman in 38 years, and that is our challenge," Herdman stated during a pre-match press conference at SUGBK on Thursday, June 4, 2026.

According to Herdman, the vibrant energy during their final training session has injected confidence into the squad. "The final training session showed great intensity and a highly positive atmosphere. With the full support of our fans, we are confident we can break this poor record and secure a victory over Oman," he added.

On the opposing side, Oman coach Tariq Sektioui acknowledged the rising quality of the Indonesian team. The Moroccan tactician believes that the Garuda squad's combination of domestic talents and naturalized diaspora players makes them a worthy opponent.

"The Indonesian national team, as we all know, has a unique blend of Indonesian and Dutch players. So this is a very good team, and we believe both teams will get what they want out of this match," Sektioui remarked.

Nevertheless, Sektioui expressed his desire for Oman to preserve their positive historical record over Indonesia, which spans nearly four decades. "Of course, Indonesia has not won against Oman for a very long time, and from our perspective, we will look to extend that period," he said.

According to historical data from 11v11, as cited by Antara, Indonesia and Oman have clashed six times previously. The Garuda squad claimed the first two victories back in the King's Cup tournaments of 1987 and 1988, winning 2-0 and 3-0, respectively, but have failed to defeat Oman ever since.

Their next encounter in 2007 resulted in a 1-0 friendly win for Oman, followed by a 0-0 stalemate in 2009 and a 2-1 Oman victory in 2010 during the 2011 Asian Cup Qualifiers. In their most recent friendly meeting in May 2021, an Indonesian side then helmed by Shin Tae-yong suffered a 1-3 defeat.

Both nations recently failed to advance to the 2026 World Cup after bowing out in the fourth round of the Asian qualifiers last October. Indonesia fell to Saudi Arabia and Iraq, while Oman crumbled after a draw with Qatar and a loss to the United Arab Emirates.

Heading into tonight's clash, Indonesia has a record of one win, one draw, and three defeats in their last five matches. Meanwhile, Oman has registered one victory, two draws, and two losses across their own previous five matches.
