Prominent Indonesian Lawyer Represents Febrie Adriansyah in Graft Probe

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Prominent Indonesian lawyer Hotman Paris Hutapea has officially become the legal representative of former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah, who is facing a corruption and money laundering investigation.

“This morning’s power of attorney is official,” Hotman told Tempo on Friday, July 17, 2026.

Hotman confirmed his appointment as Febrie’s lawyer as the former top prosecutor appeared for his first questioning as a suspect at the Attorney General’s Office.

Hotman Arrives at Attorney General’s Office

Hotman visited the Jampidsus Building of the Attorney General’s Office on Friday morning to accompany Febrie during the examination.

He arrived at around 9:48 a.m. local time, with his vehicle entering directly through the building’s basement area. After stepping out of the car, a person wearing a prosecutor’s identification card directed Hotman to an elevator.

Journalists waiting outside the building since 8 a.m. did not see Febrie enter the premises.

Attorney General’s Office spokesperson Anang Supriatna confirmed that investigators had summoned Febrie for questioning as a suspect.

“Investigators from the Attorney General’s Office have summoned FA to be examined as a suspect,” Anang said.

Febrie Faces Asabri Corruption, Money Laundering Allegations

Febrie was named a suspect by the Indonesian National Police’s Corruption Eradication Task Force (Kortastipidkor) and the Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s Special Crime Investigation Directorate.

He is accused in an alleged corruption and money laundering case related to PT Asuransi Sosial Angkatan Bersenjata Republik Indonesia (Asabri).

Investigators charged Febrie under Indonesia’s Anti-Corruption Law, including Article 12(e) and Article 12B, as well as Articles 3 and 4 of the Money Laundering Law.

Private lawyer Don Ritto was also named a suspect in the same case.

Police Transferred Probe to Attorney General’s Office

The police initially investigated three cases allegedly involving Febrie, including the Asabri corruption case, the settlement of PT Krakatau Steel subsidiary debt, and an alleged corruption case involving a Steam Power Plant (PLTU) project owned by state electricity company PT PLN.

However, police transferred the handling of the three investigations to the Attorney General’s Office on July 11, 2026.

To prevent a conflict of interest, the Attorney General’s Office formed a special team consisting of nine senior prosecutors to handle the case involving its former Jampidsus leader.
