TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Finance Ministry has scrapped the 2025 Ministerial Scholarship program due to budget cuts. This cancellation was announced through the Finance Ministry's announcement number PENG-14/PP.2/2025 which was recently published.
“We convey that the 2025 Ministerial Scholarship Offer as announced through Announcement NUMBER PENG-1/PP.2/2025 has been canceled,” the announcement read.
The Ministry apologized for the cancellation and confirmed that the scholarship registration process has been halted since the announcement date of January 31, 2025.
This budget efficiency measure is carried out in response to President Prabowo Subianto's Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 1 of 2025, concerning the Efficiency of Spending and Implementation of the State Budget (APBN) and Regional Budget (APBD) for the 2025 Fiscal Year. This was issued by the President on January 22, 2025.
Following the Inpres, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani issued a Ministerial Letter Number S-37/MK.02/2025, dated January 24, 2025, regarding Spending Efficiency for Ministries/Institutions in the 2025 State Budget.
The Finance Ministry is not the only ministry/institution required to suppress its budget. All ministries/institutions have been instructed to prepare plans to identify expenditures for potential cuts. These plans will be discussed with their respective commission partners in the House of Representatives (DPR) before any cuts are finalized.
The Finance Ministry is reportedly facing efficiency measures of around Rp12.3 trillion. Deni Surjantoro, Head of the Finance Ministry's Communication and Information Services Bureau, stated that the Finance Ministry's budget efficiency process is currently under review and confirmed the figure. “For the Finance Ministry, it's approximately that amount,” Deni told Tempo on Monday, February 3, 2025.
