TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Four soldiers of the Indonesian National Armed Force (TNI) accused of orchestrating an acid attack against activist Andrie Yunus have appealed the prison sentences handed down by the panel of judges at the Jakarta II-08 Military Court.

"The defense counsel [filed] a legal remedy," stated Jakarta II-08 Military Court spokesperson Endah Wulandari when contacted on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

The appeal was lodged on the day the verdict was delivered on June 10, 2026. "An appeal was declared following the court's decision," Endah said.

Meanwhile, Endah noted that the military prosecutor chose not to file a counter-appeal.

Due to the appeal submitted by the defense team, the prison sentences ranging from 1.5 to 3 years imposed by the judicial panel against the defendants have not yet gained final legal force, or inkracht van gewijsde.

On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, the panel of judges at the Jakarta II-08 Military Court found four personnel from the TNI's Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais) guilty of executing the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, the Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS).

The four Bais members were identified as Defendant I Second Sergeant Edi Sudarko, Defendant II First Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi, Defendant III Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetyo, and Defendant IV First Lieutenant Sami Lakka.

"To sentence Defendant I to a base prison term of three years," declared the Chief of the Panel of Judges, Colonel Chk Fredy Ferdian, while reading out the verdict at the Jakarta II-08 Military Court on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.

The judicial panel subsequently handed down a prison sentence of two years and six months to Defendant II. Defendant III received a two-year prison term, while Defendant IV was sentenced to one year and six months behind bars.

These final sentences diverged from the original demands of the military prosecutor, which were presented on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. At that time, the prosecution had sought a uniform prison sentence of two years and six months for all four defendants.

In addition to the prison terms, the panel of judges imposed an additional punitive measure of dismissal from military service for both Defendant I and Defendant II. This decision directly invokes Article 26 of the Military Criminal Code (KUHPM).

The judges concluded that the four defendants were proven to have violated Article 467 paragraph (1) in conjunction with paragraph (2) of Law Number 1 of 2023 regarding the Criminal Code, in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of the KUHPM as the subsidiary indictment.
