TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tomorrow Bio, a medical startup from Germany, offers a service to freeze human bodies for potential revival in the future. This service, known as cryopreservation, costs US$200,000 for whole-body preservation and US$80,000 for brain-only preservation.

Tomorrow Bio believes that the cause of death can be overcome as medical science advances. In the cryopreservation procedure, the body is cooled to -198 degrees Celsius to enter a biostasis condition, where all biological activities cease indefinitely. With this method, the condition of the human body will not change until it is revived in the future using medical technology.

The company is based in Germany, but its main facility is in Switzerland. The cryopreserved bodies will be stored in insulated containers filled with liquid nitrogen.

To ensure the promptness of the human body preservation process after death, Tomorrow Bio has prepared special ambulances in various European major cities, such as Berlin, Amsterdam, and Zurich. An emergency team is responsible for promptly transporting the body after a person is declared dead. The body is taken to the main facility to undergo the full cryopreservation procedure.

So far, Tomorrow Bio has preserved six people and five pets. The entity has received over 650 individuals registering for the service.

Fernando Azevedo Pinheir, one of the founders, is optimistic that this technology will continue to advance. "During our lifetime, we may witness the safe cryopreservation and reanimation of complex organisms," he said, as quoted from The Express Tribune, Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

Tomorrow Bio also has a long-term vision for the development of this technology. They aspire to create a world where individuals can choose their lifespan, regardless of their location, identity, or financial status.

As medical and cryogenic technology advances, this service sparks ethical and scientific debates about the boundaries of life and death and the extent to which science can alter humanity's fate.
