Governor Renames Bank DKI into Bank Jakarta in Preparation of Capital Relocation to IKN

2 weeks ago 42

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has officially renamed Bank DKI, a regional bank owned by the Jakarta Provincial Government, to Bank Jakarta. The launch took place at Taman Literasi Martha Christina Tiahahu in South Jakarta on Sunday, June 22, as part of the city's 498th anniversary celebration.

Pramono said the rebranding process was thorough. "The change was not based solely on a proposal from the board of directors or commissioners. It was also decided following discussions involving not just Jakarta residents, but also the people of Indonesia," he said in a written statement.

He said that the renaming is part of the preparations for the implementation of Law No. 2 of 2024 on the Special Region of Jakarta (DKJ). This law outlines Jakarta's future status once the nation's capital is officially relocated to Nusantara (IKN) in East Kalimantan. Once that occurs, Jakarta will lose its status as a capital city (DKI) and instead become a special region (DKJ).

Pramono said that the name change to Bank Jakarta is a strategic step in preparing for the transition. "We view the transformation of Bank DKI as a strategic move to expand its service network and strengthen its role and competitiveness," said the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician.

In addition to the new name, Pramono unveiled a new logo for Bank Jakarta. While the updated design is still based on the image of the National Monument (Monas), it consists of three diagonal lines without a surrounding circle. This new design resembles the flame of Monas reaching upward.

Pramono encouraged Bank Jakarta to go public through an initial public offering (IPO). He said the IPO should be viewed not solely as a financial target, but also as a strategy to make the bank more open and competitive.

Bank Jakarta President Director Agus Widodo said that the brand and logo change represent more than just a cosmetic shift. "We understand that to stay relevant, we cannot stand still. We have to transform, and that begins with our identity," he said.
