TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Secretary General of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Hasto Kristiyanto, complied with the summons issued by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators on Thursday, February 20th today.
Hasto faces questioning as a suspect in a bribery case linked to KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan, which also involves KPK fugitive Harun Masiku and allegations of obstructing the investigation.
"Today, I head to the KPK with my spirit on fire," said Hasto in a statement obtained by Tempo, seen on Thursday, February 20, 2025.
He explained that a passionate spirit is needed in this examination. Hasto claimed that he is a victim of a legal process politicized by the authorities to oppress those who often criticize the government.
He stated that the politicized legal process includes alleged intimidation against himself and the witnesses being examined by the KPK. For example, Hasto's staff, Kusnadi, and the former convict in this case Agustina Tio Fridelina.
"That is why all of us must fight with our heads held high in order to achieve true justice," said Hasto.
Prior to this, Hasto regarded the summons by the KPK today as politically biased. His reasons were based on the pretrial hearing that was previously filed in the South Jakarta District Court, where there were many irregularities and alleged intimidation of witnesses into mentioning his name in front of the investigators.
The Panel of Judges at the South Jakarta District Court rejected the pretrial request. This was based on the reason that the request did not have sufficient legal clarity, leading the judges to state that the request was vague and could not be accepted.
Despite deeming it politicized, Hasto stated that as a PDIP cadre who has been instilled with the values of discipline and obedience to the law, he will still attend the Anti-Corruption Commission's summons tomorrow.
"But even with that context, I will still attend along with legal advisors," he said.
Meanwhile, the KPK had scheduled the summons for Hasto as a suspect on Monday, February 17, 2025. However, Hasto did not comply with the summons.
Hasto's legal representative, Ronny Talapessy, stated that a letter requesting a postponement of the examination had been sent to the Anti-Corruption Commission. The reason was that on that day, Hasto was in the process of filing a pretrial request again.
Hasto's absence was then addressed by KPK by issuing a second summons letter. The letter was sent by KPK shortly after receiving Hasto's request for a postponement of the examination.
"The investigators will issue a second summons letter to the concerned party, still within this week," said KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto last Monday.
Tessa mentioned that the re-summons for Hasto will take place on Thursday or Friday this week. PDIP spokesperson Guntur Romli said that Hasto had departed for the KPK before 10:00 AM today or as per the examination schedule.
"The Secretary General departed with the legal advisory team, one of whom is the PDIP DPP Chief for Legal Reform, Ronny Talapessy," said Guntur.
