TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin signed a memorandum of understanding or MoU with Saudi Health Minister Fahad Abdulrahman AlJalajel. The collaboration involves the merging of human resources between the two countries.
One of them, he said, includes cooperation between Nahdlatul Ulama University and a new company in Saudi Arabia that manages more than 300 hospitals. "So, merging people, learning, and also experiences," he said when met at the Ministry of Health office, Jakarta, on Monday, February 24, 2025.
In addition, Budi conveyed that Indonesia currently needs more health professionals for heart surgeries. He hopes that through this collaboration, doctors from King Salman Relief can help Indonesia to increase the number of operations, especially for children with congenital heart defects.
"We have 12 thousand annually, 6 thousand are untreated and die. It can be assisted by King Salman Relief," he said.
Budi also hopes that this collaboration includes the exchange of digital vaccine certificates. Because pilgrims from Indonesia must meet vaccination requirements at immigration or airports. The inspection process will be easier with digitalized vaccine certificates for both parties, even though the number of pilgrims from Indonesia is very high.
"So, if it can be digitalized, it will be much easier for both parties," he said.
Not only that, Saudi Health Minister Fahad Abdulrahman AlJalajel, said Budi, will also visit Bio Farma to discuss vaccine production capacity. According to him, this MoU also aims to realize vaccine production that is more evenly distributed in Africa, East Asia, the Middle East, Indonesia, South Asia, and South America.
"Thus, if a pandemic occurs again, we will have sufficient production facilities to provide vaccines for 8 billion people worldwide," he said.
