TEMPO.CO, Sukoharjo - Heavy rain poured down in several areas of Solo Raya, Central Java, on Monday, February 24, 2025, from 2:00 PM until the evening. The impact of this persistent rain includes flooding in several villages in Nguter Sub-district, Sukoharjo Regency. The water levels varied from ankle-deep to about one meter.

Based on information gathered by Tempo, the heavy rain for more than 3 hours has caused several rivers originating from Karanganyar to overflow. The flooding has obstructed the Sukoharjo-Wonogiri road at the Songgorunggi three-way junction and the Songgorunggi-Plesan road section.

As of the writing of this news, the flooding is still occurring. Water has even started to overflow onto the streets and enter the houses of some residents in Nguter Sub-district, forcing some of them to evacuate. The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Sukoharjo Regency, along with the SAR Team, volunteers, and local residents, are attempting to evacuate the residents, especially children and the elderly, who are trapped in their flooded homes.

The Head of the BPBD of Sukoharjo Regency, Ariyanto Mulyatmojo, stated that they cannot yet confirm the number of residents affected by the flooding tonight. "We are currently continuing to coordinate and carry out the evacuation process," he said when contacted via his mobile phone on Monday night.

A resident of Nguter Sub-district, Agil Trisetiawan, reported that several villages affected by the flooding include Kedungwinong, Kepuh, Gupit, and Celep. The most severe flooding occurred in the Kedungwinong area. "Water has started to enter the residents' houses," said Agil when contacted via his mobile phone.

According to Agil, the flooding has also impacted the traffic flow on the Sukoharjo-Wonogiri road in Songgorunggi, with the flooding reaching half a meter high. "The road cannot be traversed due to the flooding; many vehicles are forced to pull over and cannot pass through," he said.

Separately, a researcher at the Climate and Atmospheric Research Center, National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Erma Yulihastin Bibit revealed that the cyclone 99S in the Indian Ocean south of Java has developed into Tropical Cyclone Bianca. The persistent and widespread rain in the Java Island today is a consequence of the tropical cyclone with a maximum wind speed at its center of 140 kilometers per hour.

"The rain effect of the tropical cyclone may continue until Wednesday, depending on the dynamics of the cyclone," she told Tempo on Monday night.
