Indonesia and Tajikistan Agree to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, met with the Non-Resident Ambassador of Tajikistan, Ardasher Qodiri, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) office in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 4. The discussion reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in economic cooperation.

According to an official statement from MOFA, Sugiono welcomed the increasing high-level exchanges between Indonesia and Tajikistan, including the visit of Tajikistan’s Prime Minister to the 10th World Water Forum in Bali last year.

Tajikistan is currently the largest investor from Central Asia in Indonesia, with total investments reaching US$5 million (Rp81.5 billion) over the past five years. Sugiono expressed hope that Tajikistan would continue expanding its investments, particularly in the downstream mineral industry. This initiative aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita vision, which focuses on industrialization to boost domestic value-added production.

Looking ahead, both countries aim to finalize and sign several agreements to further enhance cooperation in politics and trade.

Indonesia and Tajikistan have maintained diplomatic relations for 30 years. Over time, collaboration has grown across various sectors, including the economy, politics, social affairs, education, culture, and tourism.

Indonesia’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, M. Fadjroel Rachman, emphasized this progress, stating, “Diplomatic relations between Indonesia, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan continue to strengthen across multiple fields.” His remarks were made during a New Year’s celebration at Wisma Indonesia Kazakhstan on December 31, 2024, as quoted in an official release from the Indonesian Embassy in Astana.
