
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia and Austria have agreed to bolster cooperation in several key sectors, including trade, investment, education, tourism, and renewable energy. This commitment was solidified at the 6th Bilateral Consultation Forum (FKB) between Indonesia and Austria, held in Jakarta on Monday, March 3, 2025.
At this FKB meeting, the Indonesian delegation was led by Widya Sadnovic, Director for Europe I of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Austrian delegation was headed by Ambassador Bita Rasoulian, Director for Asia and the Pacific of the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria.
During the meeting, both nations underscored the importance of fostering people-to-people connections, particularly among the younger generation, who will serve as future leaders and decision-makers.
Furthermore, Indonesia and Austria agreed to strengthen the implementation of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of skilled labor, aimed at facilitating the mobility of professional workers from Indonesia to Austria.
Additionally, the two countries committed to maintaining a focus on enhancing cooperation in interfaith dialogue to cultivate an inclusive society in an era characterized by numerous challenges, such as armed conflicts and the rise of far-right extremism in certain nations.
Beyond the commitment to expand bilateral cooperation, Indonesia and Austria also engaged in discussions on various regional and global geopolitical developments of shared concern.
Overall, Indonesia and Austria share congruent perspectives on a range of aspects, both bilaterally and in addressing global issues, particularly in promoting peace and geopolitical stability in the region.
According to records from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the relationship between Indonesia and Austria spans over 70 years and has consistently evolved and expanded across diverse sectors. While trade between the two countries has experienced fluctuations, Austria recognizes Indonesia as a pivotal player in the Southeast Asian region and a dependable and trustworthy partner.
Furthermore, this 6th bilateral consultation meeting signifies a substantial step in reinforcing the well-established Indonesia-Austria relationship that has endured for more than 70 years. Both countries are dedicated to continuing their collaborative efforts in tackling global challenges and capitalizing on opportunities for mutual advancement.
