TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian men's badminton team secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over Thailand in the second match of Group D in the 2026 Thomas Cup held at Forum Horsens, Horsens, on Sunday, April 26, 2026. Indonesia's victory was determined by the third singles player, Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah. The player, fondly known as Ubed, displayed dominant performance as he defeated Tanawat Yimjit in straight sets, 21-11, 21-12.
Ubed took control of the game from the start of the first set with a fast and aggressive tempo. He took a commanding 13-3 lead before sealing the set with a convincing victory. Moving into the second set, the pattern of play remained unchanged. Ubed continued to dictate the rhythm and secured the win relatively easily.
Ubed's victory ensured Indonesia's 3-2 lead after a tightly contested match from the first game. Earlier, Jonatan Christie had to concede to Kunlavut Vitidsarn after a rubber set battle. Indonesia then leveled the score to 1-1 through the victory of the men's doubles pair Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh. Reza Pahlevi Isfahani against Chaloempoen Charoenkitamorn/Worrapol Thongsa-nga.
Thailand took the lead again at 2-1 after Alwi Farhan lost to Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul. However, Indonesia forced the deciding match after the men's doubles pair Fajar Alfian/Nikolaus Joaquin claimed a dramatic victory over Peeratchai Sukphun/Pakkapon Teeraratsakul.
Fajar/Joaquin won in a rubber set 19-21, 21-17, 25-23 in a thrilling match. After losing the first set, they bounced back in the second set with aggressive play. In the deciding set, the duel was tight until deuce before the Indonesian pair secured the win.
