Indonesia Open 2026: Indonesia Finish Empty-Handed as Men's Doubles Lose Final

6 hours ago 22

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian men’s doubles pair Raymond Indra / Nikolaus Joaquin failed to clinch the Indonesia Open 2026 title after losing to Malaysian second seeds Goh Sze Fei / Nur Izzuddin in the final at Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Jakarta, on Sunday, June 7, 2026. Raymond / Joaquin were defeated in three games, 21-13, 18-21, 10-21.

The result also meant Indonesia ended the BWF World Tour Super 1000 tournament without a title.

Earlier, Jonatan Christie, who competed in the men’s singles category, also lost to Canada’s Victor Lai in the final.

The Indonesian pair showed strong promise in the opening game, immediately taking control and leading 11-7 at the interval. Despite committing several unforced errors that allowed their opponents to reduce the gap, Raymond / Joaquin maintained their dominance.

After the break, the tempo of the game increased with shorter rallies, and the Indonesian duo looked more comfortable in building their attacks. They stretched their lead to 17-8 before closing the first game convincingly 21-13.

Entering the second game, Goh / Izzuddin attempted a comeback, taking the first two points. However, Raymond / Joaquin once again managed to relieve pressure and regain control, leading 11-7 at the interval, similar to the first game.

The situation changed after the break as the Malaysian pair increased the tempo and became more aggressive in attack. Their powerful smashes began to produce points, allowing them to level the score at 14-14.

The momentum gradually shifted to the Malaysian side as they edged ahead 16-15. The match became increasingly tense in the late stages of the game. At a crucial moment, Raymond’s shot hit the net, giving the Malaysians a game point opportunity, which they converted to take the second game 21-18 and force a decider.

In the third game, Goh / Izzuddin carried the momentum from their second-game win. The match was initially tight, but the Malaysian pair gradually took control and led 11-8 at the interval. After the break, their dominance became more evident as they pulled away further to 16-9 and 18-9.

On the other hand, Raymond / Joaquin began to lose rhythm and struggled to penetrate the Malaysian defense.

Playing more calmly and consistently, Goh / Izzuddin did not give the Indonesian pair any chance to mount a comeback. They closed the third game with a 21-10 victory, securing the men’s doubles championship title at the Indonesia Open 2026.
