TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs repatriated 84 Indonesian citizens involved in online scam practices from Myawaddy in Myanmar to Maesot in Thailand on Thursday.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on Friday, February 28, 2025, as reported by Antara, the group consists of 69 men and 15 women, including three pregnant women, all of whom are in good health.

Prior to this operation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs along with the Indonesian Embassies in Yangon and Bangkok had been in Maesot to engage in intensive coordination with various parties in Thailand and Myanmar since February 23.

Thai authorities granted permission for the Indonesians to pass through the Second Friendship Bridge on Thursday, which is located on the border between Myawaddy and Maesot.

Upon their arrival in Maesot, Thai authorities conducted health checks, immigration procedures, and a national referral mechanism for potential trafficking in persons for the Indonesians.

According to the statement, the Governor of Tak Province was also present to monitor the examination process.

Local authorities will then transport the Indonesians to Bangkok and arrange for their return to Indonesia. The 84 Indonesian citizens are scheduled to arrive in Jakarta on Friday night.

The relevant ministries/agencies, through coordination with the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, will facilitate the arrival of the Indonesian citizens and the subsequent assessment process, including social rehabilitation, before they are returned to their respective hometowns.
