Meutya revealed, the Komdigi Ministry has signed a Decree (SK) to form a special working team that will work on a study of the restrictions including other regulations related to child protection in the digital space.
"In accordance with the direction and spirit of the President to strengthen child protection in the digital space, we are following up with the formation of a Working Team Decree for child protection regulations on the internet, among others, the possibility of including restrictions on social media access for certain ages," said Meutya.
Based on the decree, said Meutya, the team will start working on Monday, February 3, 2025. The Working Team consists of representatives from ministries, academics, child education figures, Save The Children Indonesia, psychology institutions, and child protection institutions.
"The President told us that he wants the acceleration of child protection regulations in the digital space to be completed as soon as possible and the timeline is that we are given one to two months," said Meutya.
Meutya said that this effort is to address the rampant consumption of pornography by children on the internet. Indonesia is currently ranked fourth in the world in terms of access to pornographic content. "This does not mention online gambling which also targets children, bullying, sexual violence against children, and other negative aspects," she added.
