Indonesia's State Budget Deficit Reaches Rp180.4 Trillion as of May 2026

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa announced that the state budget deficit for the Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) until the end of May 2026 amounted to Rp180.4 trillion or 0.70 percent of gross domestic product (GDP). State revenue has reached Rp1,185 trillion, and expenditure has exceeded Rp1,365.4 trillion.

The current budget deficit has increased slightly compared to April 2026 (Rp164.4 trillion), but has improved compared to the end of March 2026 (Rp240.1 trillion).

Purbaya stated that the low budget deficit was caused by a significant increase in state revenue. "State revenue grew by 19.1 percent," said Purbaya in the APBN KiTa press conference at the Ministry of Finance office, Jakarta, on Friday, June 5, 2026.

State revenue has currently reached 37.6 percent of the target. The increase is derived from tax revenue amounting to Rp834.4 trillion, customs and excise duties of Rp123.8 trillion, Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) Rp226.4 trillion, and grant revenue of Rp400 billion.

Meanwhile, state expenditure reached 35.5 percent of the target, up 34.4 percent compared to the same period last year. The central government has spent Rp1,059.3 trillion, and transfers to regions have been recorded at Rp306.1 trillion.

In addition, the primary balance shows a surplus of Rp58.6 trillion. Hence, Purbaya stated that the state's cash position remains secure. "This means that our budget is now more sustainable than in previous months," he said.

Overall, state expenditure in the 2026 APBN is set at Rp3,842.7 trillion, while state revenue is estimated to reach Rp3,153.6 trillion. This year's budget deficit is targeted at Rp689.1 trillion or 2.68 percent of GDP.
