TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia and Switzerland are set to sign a mineral and metal non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) on June 23, 2026. This was revealed by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto after meeting Swiss Federal Councilor Guy Parmelin on the sidelines of the OECD Ministerial Meeting 2026 in Paris, France, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
"This will expand partnership between both countries into critical minerals sector," Airlangga said.
During the meeting, both parties discussed several economic cooperation agendas, including Switzerland's support for Indonesia's accession process to the OECD.
According to Airlangga, Switzerland affirmed its support for Indonesia's accession to the OECD, manifested through a 3 million euro contribution and a Swiss cooperation program for the period of 2025-2028.
He explained that the program includes capacity building in implementing Responsible Business Conduct principles and support for Indonesia's efforts to comply with various OECD legal instruments.
Indonesia is currently discussing 240 OECD legal instruments spread across 32 chapters with over 60 ministries and institutions. During the meeting, Airlangga also presented the government's efforts to cull the number of state-owned enterprises through various asset structuring measures.
Airlangga also mentioned the establishment of the sovereign wealth fund Danantara, tasked with managing domestic and international assets and investments. The agency is now exploring issuing international bonds to attract foreign capital.
According to Airlangga, Indonesia also plans to collaborate with Switzerland to study investment governance practices implemented in that country.
In addition to investment matters, the two countries discussed energy and food resilience amid global geopolitical uncertainty, including the risk of energy supply disruptions due to conflicts in the Middle East. Airlangga stated that Indonesia has diversified its oil import sources to reduce dependency on a single supplier country.
In the food sector, Airlangga claimed that Indonesia has achieved food self-sufficiency to maintain long-term price stability. He also mentioned that Indonesia has exported fertilizers to several countries, including Australia.
In the energy sector, Airlangga stated that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, together with the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), are expanding cooperation through an agreement on smart grid development and battery storage technology. He stated that this collaboration is aimed at supporting the use of solar energy in Indonesia.
