TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs will hold the session of isbat to determine the beginning of Syawal 1447 Hijriah today on Thursday, March 19, 2026. The Isbat session will be held at the Auditorium H.M. Rasjidi, Ministry of Religious Affairs Office, Central Jakarta.

Director General of Islamic Community Guidance of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Abu Rokhmad, said that the Isbat session is a government mechanism for determining the beginning of the month in the Hijri calendar, especially Ramadan, Syawal, and Zulhijah. "As usual, the Isbat session begins with a seminar presenting the position of the hilal by the Ministry of Religious Affairs' Hisab Rukyat Team," said Abu as quoted on the official Ministry of Religious Affairs website, Thursday.

After the seminar, the next activity is to hold a closed session to discuss the results of the rukyatul hilal from various regions before finally announced to the public.

Abu explained that based on astronomical calculations (hisab), on the day of rukyat or 29 Ramadan 1447 Hijriah, which is today, the height of the hilal in all regions of Indonesia is above the horizon, ranging from 054'27'' to 37'52''. Meanwhile, the elongation angle of the hilal ranges from 432'40'' to 606'11''.

According to Abu, all hisab systems show that the conjunction before Syawal 1447 H occurred on March 19, 2026, at around 08:23 am this morning. However, the determination of the beginning of Syawal still awaits the results of rukyatul hilal carried out in various regions of Indonesia.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs will conduct hilal monitoring at 117 locations spread across Indonesia. This observation is carried out by the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs together with district/city offices, Religious Courts, Islamic community organizations, and relevant agencies in the region.

The Isbat session will be attended by other parties such as representatives of friendly foreign countries, Chairman of the DPR Commission VIII, Supreme Court, Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), and Geospatial Information Agency (BIG). Then, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Bosscha Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Planetarium, as well as astronomy experts from Islamic community organizations and members of the Ministry of Religious Affairs' Hisab Rukyat Team.
