TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director of the Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Legal Entities of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, stated that the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore will continue to provide assistance to Indonesian citizens suspected of committing sexual harassment on a flight to Singapore.

In a brief message received in Jakarta on Tuesday, as quoted by Antara, Judha said that the Indonesian citizen and his family had consulted with the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore on February 10.

"The Indonesian Embassy in Singapore has assisted in coordinating with the Singapore Police, including efforts to ensure that the trial can proceed promptly without delay," he said.

As reported by Channel NewsAsia, a 23-year-old Indonesian man is suspected of committing sexual harassment against a flight attendant on a flight to Singapore on January 23.

The Singapore Police were informed of an incident where the man allegedly exposed his genitals to a female cabin crew member while on the plane.

Investigations revealed that the man had covered himself with a blanket and set his mobile phone to video recording mode before allegedly unzipping his pants in front of a flight attendant while she was serving meals.

The flight attendant quickly moved away from the man's seat and reported the issue to her superiors.

The man was immediately arrested by airport police officers as soon as the plane landed at Changi Airport.

The man will stand trial on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, and is charged with a sexual offense under Article 377BF of the Criminal Code 1871 read with Section 3 (1) of the Tokyo Convention 1971.

If proven guilty, the Indonesian citizen will face imprisonment for up to one year, a fine, or both.

"The police take a firm stance against sexual offenders who engage in indecent acts that cause concern, distress, and harassment to others, both on board an aircraft and in public," said the Singaporean police.

"Offenders like that will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law."
