TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Nine Indonesian volunteers who joined the Gaza-bound voyage Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 have reported alleged torture they experienced while detained by Israeli authorities to the country's Attorney General's Office (AGO).
GSF 2.0 Volunteer Representative Herman Budianto said in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 29, that the report alleges kidnapping and violence during their four-day detention.
"We came to Jampidsus (Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes) today to report what we experienced during our kidnapping and detention in an Israeli Zionist prison for four days, and we will report the violence we experienced," he said.
According to Budianto, the volunteers brought forth several pieces of evidence, including photographs of injuries, autopsy results, and a chronology of events, as part of their report to the Attorney General's Office.
The GSF activists' attorney, Shaleh Al Ghiffari, said they are filing a report against Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli government. The activists requested the authorities to consider the report based on universal and provisions stating the universal and passive personality principle under the country's Criminal Code.
These provisions, he said, could serve as the basis for persecuting alleged international crimes.
Previously, the GSF 2.0 humanitarian mission ship carrying nine Indonesian citizens was intercepted by the Israeli military in open waters on May 18, 2026, and the volunteers were subsequently detained in the city of Ashdod.
The nine Indonesian citizens were released on May 21, 2026, following diplomatic and consular efforts undertaken by the Indonesian government and several parties.
Members of the aid voyage include Bambang Noroyono alias Abeng from Republika, Thoudy Badai Rifan Billah from Republika, Andre Prasetyo Nugroho from Tempo, and Rahendro Herubowo from iNews; Herman Budianto Sudarsono, Ronggo Wirasanu, Andi Angga Prasadewa, Asad Aras Muhammad, and Hendro Prasetyo.
