TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has firmly denied any discussions or plans regarding the relocation of Gazan citizens to Indonesia. This statement was issued by Ministry spokesperson Rolliansyah Soemirat in response to reports from several Israeli media outlets claiming that a scheme was in place to transfer Palestinian refugees to Indonesia.
Soemirat categorically dismissed these claims. “The Indonesian government has never engaged in discussions with any party nor received any information about the alleged plan to move Gazan citizens to Indonesia, as mentioned in several foreign media reports," he stated in an official press release on Thursday, March 27, 2025.
He further emphasized, "There have been no discussions or agreements between Indonesia and any party regarding this matter," aiming to put an end to the speculation circulating in recent days.
According to Soemirat, Indonesia's priority remains peace and humanitarian efforts in Gaza. "Right now, our focus is on advocating for Ceasefire Phase II, ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid, and facilitating the reconstruction process in Gaza," he explained.
This stance is in line with Indonesia's consistent diplomatic and humanitarian support for resolving the Palestine-Israel conflict. The Indonesian government is also actively calling on the international community to expedite humanitarian assistance to Gaza as the crisis worsens.
Reports from Israeli media had previously suggested that 100 Gazan citizens would be flown to Indonesia as part of a pilot program aimed at encouraging the voluntary migration of Palestinians from Gaza.
The Times of Israel, citing Hebrew media reports from Wednesday, March 26, 2025, stated that these individuals would be employed in Indonesia, primarily in the construction sector.
According to Channel 12 News, the program is allegedly being spearheaded by Major General Ghassan Alian, Head of the Government Activities Coordinator in the Territories (COGAT), a unit under Israel’s Ministry of Defense. The report further claimed that Israel hopes to expand the initiative if successful, eventually encouraging thousands of Gazan citizens to relocate and potentially resettle permanently in Indonesia.
