TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Dita Puspita, an Indonesian student living in South Korea, responds to the #KaburAjaDulu trend on social media platforms, especially on X.

She reveals a number of advantages that South Korea offers compared to Indonesia.

The master's program student at Kookmin University mentioned several things that make her feel at home in South Korea. She cited several aspects of daily life that make her feel more comfortable living in the country.

"The differences are really noticeable. It's reasonable because South Korea is a developed country," said Dita when contacted by Tempo via WhatsApp on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

1. Public Transportation

Dita mentioned that South Korea has very adequate public transportation facilities. She stated that South Korea has an integrated public transportation system that makes it easy for residents to move around.

"It's just a short walk, and we can reach a bus stop or subway station," she said.

For example, the woman residing in Seoul recounted that she can easily travel anywhere she wants using public transportation. Moreover, Dita added that the South Korean government also provides facilities for pedestrians.

2. Timely Information System

Dita, who is majoring in electrical engineering, also revealed that South Korea has a fast and timely information system.

Dita mentioned that the South Korean government can send the public news about natural disasters or criminal activities, to the public. She pointed out that the news can be accessed quickly through notifications on their mobile phones.

"In a day, there can be more than five [notifications]," she said.

As another example, Dita said that when an earthquake occurred at midnight, all the residents' phones received evacuation warnings in the form of an alert.

3. Tight Security

Furthermore, Dita said that South Korea has a very tight security system. For example, she mentioned that the country provides CCTV or surveillance cameras in almost every public place.

"Even every car has a dashboard cam that is always on," she said.

The University of Indonesia alumna explained that these adequate security facilities enable maximum tracking of criminal activities.

4. Culture of Honesty

Not only that, Dita revealed the culture of honesty attached to the people of South Korea. She recounted that once an electronic card fell in front of her dormitory, but no one dared to touch it.

Dita mentioned that even though the payment system in South Korea is cashless with practical card use without entering a password, no one wanted to take a card that didn't belong to them.

5. Recreational Facilities

Dita further highlighted that the South Korean government provides appealing recreational spaces, like parks, which are free to access.

"They’re comfortable, clean, and well-maintained—perfect for a stroll and enjoying the fresh air," she said.

Dita also pointed out that Seoul is home to numerous cafes with unique and creative concepts, alongside a wide range of delicious menu options.

Furthermore, she shared that attending K-pop concerts is more accessible, thanks to the close-knit entertainment industry, giving fans opportunities to meet their idols.

Loyalty to Indonesia

Although South Korea has various advantages, Dita emphasized that she will always maintain her identity as an Indonesian citizen. She wants to uphold nationalism even though she has to live abroad in South Korea.

"Because they introduce their culture, I also introduce Indonesian culture to them," she said.
