Indra Sjafri Still on Duty to Form Indonesian National Team for SEA Games 2025

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo stated that the former coach of the Indonesian U-20 national team, Indra Sjafri, has been given a new assignment by the All Indonesian Football Association (PSSI). Indra will prepare the national football team to face the 2025 SEA Games.

"He (PSSI Chair Erick Thohir) conveyed to me that coach Indra Sjafri is still assigned to prepare the Indonesian national football team for the SEA Games," said Dito Ariotedjo in Jakarta on Monday, February 24, 2025.

The PSSI has fired Indra Sjafri from the coaching position of the Indonesian U-20 national team. The 62-year-old coach failed to meet the target at the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup. Dito assessed that Indra is an excellent Indonesian coach, especially in nurturing young football players throughout the country.

He acknowledged that the 62-year-old coach has made many glorious achievements for Indonesian football. The coach from West Sumatra led Indonesia to win the 2013 AFF Cup with the U-19 national team, the 2019 AFF Cup with the U-22 national team, won a medal at the 2023 SEA Games with the U-22 national team, won the 2024 AFF Cup with the U-19 national team, and qualified for the final round of the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup with the U-20 national team.

Dito stated that the PSSI is currently looking for a new coach for the Indonesian U-20 national team, but Indra Sjafri will still be responsible for preparing the team for the 2025 SEA Games. "Mr. Erick conveyed to me, yesterday he also reported to me that for the junior national team, the coach will be replaced temporarily," he said.

Dito hopes that with the experience and achievements he possesses, Indra Sjafri can once again lead the Indonesian national team to achieve the best results at the SEA Games, which will take place in December 2025.
