TEMPO.CO, Indramayu - The Indramayu Police thwarted the circulation of counterfeit money and arrested two perpetrators. The Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Indramayu Police, Adjunct Commissioner Hillal Adi Imawan, stated that the arrest of two counterfeit money makers and distributors began with a report from the public suspecting the activities of printing and storing counterfeit money in a house in Mekarjaya Village, Gantar Sub-district.
''Officers who received the report immediately went to the location in Mekarjaya Village, Gantar Sub-district, Indramayu Regency,'' said Hilal on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
Upon arrival, the police found two individuals storing several sheets of counterfeit rupiah. A man with the initial A, 39, and W, 53, residents of Gantar Sub-district and Losarang Sub-district, Indramayu Regency, have been detained at the Indramayu Police for further investigation.
Hillal stated that the two used varnish solution to create a rough texture on the counterfeit money, making it resemble genuine currency. The counterfeit money was printed in 100,000 rupiah denominations and was suspected to be circulated approaching Eid al-Fitr.
In apprehending the two perpetrators, the authorities also seized evidence such as 218 sheets of counterfeit 100,000 rupiah, a can of clear varnish, cellphones, a counterfeit detector, and a flash drive containing video recordings of the perpetrators' activities.
Hillal urged the public to remain cautious of counterfeit money circulation, especially approaching festive seasons like Eid. ''We hope the public will be more careful when receiving money in transactions, particularly large denominations,'' said Hilal. If anyone discovers suspicious money, Hilal also urged the public to report it to the police immediately.
