TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ireland has imposed a travel ban on right-wing Israeli ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, according to Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin.
As reported by ANTARA, Irish Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan approved the ban, as confirmed by PM Martin while attending the EU–Western Balkans Summit in Tivat, Montenegro.
Martin said the actions and statements of the two officials "amount to a desire to see the removal of Palestinians from Palestine", adding that further action was needed at the EU level. He stressed that the international community must consider this issue.
He said Ireland would raise the issue with other EU members, noting that their actions warranted EU-wide sanctions, although gaining consensus within the bloc remains uncertain.
A spokesperson for the justice minister said the ban was imposed after government approval outside the Cabinet, in line with Ireland's policy of preventing entry to individuals deemed to be contributing to the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
The decision also follows similar moves by several countries, including France, which previously announced restrictions on entry to Israeli officials amid growing international calls for EU sanctions.
