TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Israel and Hamas on Saturday, March 9, 2025, signaled their readiness to negotiate for the second phase of ceasefire. This move was made as the mediator team encouraged Israel Hamas to extend the ceasefire for 42 days, which started on January 19, 2025.
Hamas stated that there are several positive indicators to start the negotiation for the second ceasefire agreement. Meanwhile, Israel mentioned that it will send a delegation to Doha, Qatar on Monday, March 10, 2025 for negotiations after receiving an invitation from the mediator team.
Reuters reported that the Hamas delegation communicated with Egypt, which helped facilitate the peace talks between Israel and Hamas, along with Qatar. The second phase of ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas is expected to lead to the end of the Gaza war.
"We emphasize our readiness to negotiate in the second phase of ceasefire talks to meet the demands of the people of Gaza, and we call for intensive efforts in distributing aid to the Gaza Strip as well as lifting the blockade on Gaza, which has caused suffering to the people of Gaza," said Hamas spokesperson Abdel-Latif Al-Qanoua.
Meanwhile, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that they have received an invitation from the mediator team supported by the United States. Tel Aviv assured that they will send a delegation to Doha on Monday, March 10, 2025, in an effort for Israel to achieve high-level negotiations.
However, while negotiation efforts were underway, Israel continued its attacks on Gaza. Several sources from Gaza's health sector stated that two Gaza residents in Rafah were killed last Saturday.
UNICEF on March 5, 2025, emphasized that the blockade on humanitarian aid, especially medical supplies, to the Gaza Strip by Israel, will have terrible consequences for the health of Palestinian children.
UNICEF also expressed concerns about the ongoing blockade of medical supplies, including vaccines, which could lead to the suspension of routine vaccination programs, putting Gaza's children at risk of preventable diseases.
