TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in Washington on Sunday afternoon, February 2, 2025, ahead of his meeting with US President Donald Trump. Netanyahu was welcomed by Israeli officials, including Israel's ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, after landing at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.

"I was excited to welcome Prime Minister @netanyahu, who has just landed in Washington ahead of his meeting with President @realDonaldTrump. This is an important meeting that strengthens the deep alliance between Israel and the United States and will enhance our cooperation," Danon said in an X quoted from Anadolu.

Trump will meet with Netanyahu on Tuesday, February 4. They are expected to discuss Gaza, Israeli hostages, and Iran.

According to media reports, the Prime Minister of Israel is scheduled to meet with US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff on Monday.

Before landing in the US, Netanyahu said he postponed sending his negotiating team to Qatar. The talks were to discuss the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement until he meets with Trump, Israeli media said.

In a statement quoted from Sky News, Netanyahu said he would discuss with Trump the victory over Hamas, freeing all hostages, and facing Iran. He said that cooperation with the US would strengthen security, expand the circle of peace, and achieve an extraordinary era of peace through strength.

Meanwhile, Hamas refuses to release the second phase of hostages if the war does not end and Israel does not withdraw its troops from Gaza.

Netanyahu was pressured by his cabinet to continue the war in Gaza, which was supposed to end in early March. He affirmed that Israel is still committed to victory over Hamas and repatriating all hostages captured in the militant attack on October 7, 2023, which triggered the war.

Israeli attacks in Gaza are ongoing. On Sunday morning, an attack on a vehicle in central Gaza injured five people, including a child.

The Israeli military said they fired at the vehicle for passing a checkpoint while heading north, violating the ceasefire agreement.
