TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government will discuss the anticipation and policies regarding newcomers in the Jakarta area after Eid al-Fitr. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the meeting will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, March 4, 2025. However, he has not disclosed the policies that the Jakarta Provincial Government will implement.
"Will there be an ID check? It has not been formulated. What's certain, under my leadership, Jakarta is open, friendly, but still firm," said Pramono at Jakarta City Hall on Monday, March 3, 2025.
According to Pramono, the potential influx of newcomers to Jakarta after Eid al-Fitr 1446 Hijriah is still highly likely. Jakarta remains an area with a high allure for seeking a better fortune.
Therefore, he stated that in tomorrow's meeting, the Jakarta Provincial Government will make improvements so that newcomers who want to work in Jakarta understand the realities that they will have to face.
"Jakarta does not close its doors, but will make improvements so that those who come to Jakarta are also aware that working in Jakarta is not an easy task," he said.
The increase in urbanization becomes an annual issue often faced by the Jakarta Provincial Government after Eid. Most newcomers want to try their luck in Jakarta by reuniting with their families who have returned to their hometowns.
Last year and in previous years, the Jakarta Provincial Government often advised Jakarta residents who celebrated the Eid holiday in their hometowns not to invite and bring other relatives, acquaintances, or other families back to Jakarta.
The then Secretary of Jakarta, Joko Agus Setyono, stated that migrant communities coming to Jakarta are at risk of facing various difficulties if they do not have adequate skills and job preparations.
He urged people not to be easily swayed by statements regarding the living conditions and ease of finding employment in Jakarta. Joko reminded that the economy is currently quite evenly distributed, so do not use Jakarta as a benchmark for seeking a better fortune.
"Consideration of the risks they will face, such as difficulties in fulfilling residency administrative requirements, access to employment, and finding suitable and permanent housing," said Joko in the Monas area, April 4, 2024.
