TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) is urging the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to accelerate both criminal and ethical proceedings against Ngada Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Pol. (AKBP) Fajar Widhyadharma Lukman Sumaatmaja, who is under investigation for alleged drug abuse and sexual abuse against three minors.
Kompolnas member Mohammad Choirul Anam revealed that seven individuals have been questioned so far, emphasizing the need for a swift resolution to ensure transparency and legal certainty.
"Based on the latest information, seven people have been examined," Anam told Tempo on Tuesday, March 11.
He warned that delays in the investigation could fuel public skepticism, as prolonged proceedings often lead to doubts about the authorities' commitment.
"The longer this takes, the more problematic it becomes. People are already questioning why it’s dragging on," he added.
Anam stressed that the case should not be limited to an internal ethics trial, but must also be accompanied by criminal proceedings if warranted. "Both processes should run in parallel. If it takes time, it should be because the criminal case is being properly prepared," he said.
Kompolnas expects Polri’s Internal Affairs Division (Propam) to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation, as seen in previous high-profile cases.
Meanwhile, Propam has confirmed that the examination of AKBP Fajar is still ongoing and follows procedures, though no further details were disclosed. "Every stage is being conducted properly. Please be patient, and we’ll provide updates as new developments emerge," the division stated on Monday, March 10.
Meanwhile, National Police spokesperson Insp. Gen. Sandi Nugroho reaffirmed Polri’s commitment to strict enforcement, stating that officers proven guilty—regardless of rank—will face consequences.
"Anyone found to have violated regulations will be sanctioned, no matter their position. That is the National Police Chief’s commitment," he said.
The police also claimed to have strengthened internal oversight and transparency, encouraging public scrutiny in the process. "We have internal and external supervision, digital monitoring, and netizens watching us. We welcome public oversight," Sandi added.
The East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Regional Police confirmed that its Internal Affairs unit detained AKBP Fajar on February 20, pending further examination by National Police Headquarters. "We are awaiting the results of the examination," said Polda NTT spokesperson Senior Commissioner Henry Novika Chandra last week.
