TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), Hasan Nasbi, explained the reasons behind the appointment of Pandu Patria Sjahrir, the nephew of Chairperson of the National Economic Council Luhut Pandjaitan, as the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (Danantara).
Hasan claimed that the selection of leaders is based on professional considerations. According to Hasan, Pandu was also chosen based on these considerations.
"Based on professionalism considerations," said Hasan at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Monday, February 24, 2025.
Hasan stated that Pandu will assist Rosan Roeslani, who was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Danantara. Rosan will also be assisted by Dony Oskaria as the Chief Operating Officer (COO).
"Mr. Dony Oskaria will be in charge of operational aspects," said Hasan.
Furthermore, Prabowo also appointed Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir as the Chairperson of the Danantara Supervisory Board and Muliaman Hadad as his deputy.
Prabowo officially launched Danantara today at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta. Prabowo Subianto mentioned that the agency will focus on the nickel downstream sector and the development of artificial intelligence data centers.
Prabowo revealed that the first wave of investment in Danantara will amount to US$20 billion for approximately 20 strategic national projects.
"Around 20 strategic projects worth billions of dollars will be focused on downstream nickel, bauxite, copper, artificial intelligence data center construction, oil refineries, petrochemical plants, food and protein production, aquaculture, and renewable energy," said Prabowo in his speech at the inauguration of Danantara, which was broadcasted via the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel on Monday, February 24, 2025.
The Head of State claimed that these projects will have a high impact and create significant added value for the country, such as creating high-quality jobs and long-term prosperity for the people.
"We no longer want to sell natural resources cheaply, and we do not want to be a source of raw materials for other nations," he said.
The US$20 billion fund, he said, is the result of savings in the first 100 days of his leadership.
"We have managed to secure more than Rp300 trillion, nearly US$20 billion, in the form of national savings," he said. "Funds that were previously hindered by inefficiency, corruption, and inappropriate expenditures."
Prabowo stated that Danantara is not only an investment management agency, but also an instrument for national development.
"Do not misunderstand, what we are launching today is not just an investment fund, but an instrument for national development that must be able to change the way we manage the nation's wealth for the long-term prosperity of all Indonesian people," he said.
