TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Manpower Yassierli has received information about mass layoffs at two public broadcast institutions, Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI), and TVRI. "But we haven't seen it specifically," he told Tempo when met at the Polytechnic of Manpower, Ciracas, East Jakarta, on Monday, February 10, 2025.

Yassierli sees the mass media industry as having its challenges. However, he said, the Ministry of Manpower will see to what extent mitigation efforts have been made by the two institutions. "Before the layoffs, we hope that something can be done by the company," he said.

He added that the ministry has prepared social guarantees in the form of Job Loss Insurance (JKP) for employees who lose their jobs due to layoffs. In addition, he affirmed that employees can also participate in training programs provided by the government. "For reskilling and so on," he said. "It's just a dynamic, usual thing."

He denied the rumor that the mass layoffs were due to budget cuts. "No, what's the connection, where?" he said.

Previously, there were rumors that RRI and TVRI were laying off staff or contractors due to budget cuts being pushed by President Prabowo Subianto's administration.

The management of Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) admitted that there had been budget cuts at the public broadcasting institution. "We remain steadfast in the policy taken," said RRI spokesperson Yonas Markus Tuhuleruw when contacted by Tempo on Monday, February 10, 2025.

Yonas said the news of RRI staff and contractors being laid off due to budget cuts was done through a rigorous selection process. "Selected rigorously," said Yonas.
