TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, or PDIP Megawati Soekarnoputri, has instructed the regional heads from her party to postpone their trip to the retreat agenda at the Indonesian Military Academy in Magelang. This instruction is a response to the arrest of the Secretary General of PDIP, Hasto Kristiyanto, by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
As is known, President Prabowo simultaneously inaugurated hundreds of regional heads from all over Indonesia yesterday. He has planned a week of retreat for the newly elected leaders.
Megawati's directive is contained in a letter numbered 7294/IN/DPP/II/2025 dated Thursday, February 20, 2025. The letter instructs:
- Regional heads and deputy regional heads to postpone their trip to attend the retreat in Magelang on February 21-28, 2025.
- If they are already on their way to Magelang, they are to stop and await further instructions from the chairperson.
- They are to remain in active communication and stand by for commander calls.
PDIP spokesperson Guntur Romli confirmed the letter’s existence but stopped short of providing further details. “Please quote the letter as is without adding additional information,” he told Tempo on Thursday night.
Guntur also said he was unaware of a meeting at Megawati's residence on Teuku Umar Street tonight. "I don't know and did not attend the meeting," he said.
Previously, KPK had officially detained Hasto on Thursday, February 20. He will be detained in the Class I National Detention House in East Jakarta, starting from February 20 until March 11, or for 20 days, for the purposes of investigation.
On December 25, the anti-graft agency named Hasto a suspect in a bribery case involving the General Election Commission (KPU) commissioner Wahyu Setiawan, which also implicated KPK fugitive Harun Masiku, and a case of obstruction of justice.
Hasto had contested the suspect designation by filing a pretrial motion at the South Jakarta District Court, which the judge dismissed for lack of legal clarity.
