TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Assistant for Economic and Development Affairs of the Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) Regional Secretariat, Rita Wisang, stated that the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo was unclear. She considered the arrival unlikely to happen. "We have confirmed directly with the Yayasan Graha Kasih Indonesia. They responded that Ronaldo has not been able to come to Kupang," said Rita in Kupang on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
"Previously, we received a letter from the Chairperson of the Provincial Association of NTT PSSI and the GKI Foundation about Ronaldo's visit to make a courtesy visit to the NTT Provincial Government. The meeting was scheduled today but canceled because Ronaldo had not arrived," Rita said again.
The Secretary of the Provincial Association of NTT Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI), Abdul Muis, remained silent without explaining. He only accompanied Rita Wisang when talking to the press.
The news of Ronaldo's arrival previously raised doubts. Martunis Ronaldo, the adopted son of Cristiano Ronaldo, also finally spoke up. He affirmed that the news of Ronaldo's arrival in NTT was a lie. "Many believed Ronaldo would come to Kupang, but for me, that's a lie," said Martunis in a video uploaded on the @martunisronaldo YouTube account, on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
According to Martunis, this news is absurd because the Arab League competition is still ongoing, and Ronaldo finds it difficult to get a break. "Some time ago, Ronaldo was still seen watching Padel matches with his two children, Cristiano Jr. and Mateo Ronaldo. If he really came to Kupang, I should have known well in advance, as when he came to Bali," he said.
Martunis admitted to having communicated directly with Ronaldo's manager, who is currently in Lisbon, Portugal. "I have spoken with his manager. Ronaldo is still in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with his family," he said.
Martunis believes that the news of Ronaldo's arrival is not based on strong grounds. "I doubt it. The truth is probably only 20 percent. Even the police have not received instructions to secure Ronaldo. Usually, if Ronaldo is going to a place, the international media would be bustling with news, but not this time," Martunis said again.
NTT people were previously stirred by the news of the arrival of the world football superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, in Kupang. The Al Nassr player was previously reported to be coming to attend an invitation from the Graha Kasih Indonesia (GKI) Foundation, including carrying out various social actions, such as building a Cancer Hospital in NTT.
No official statement has yet been made by the GKI Foundation and the Provincial Association of NTT PSSI. Earlier, The Ministry of Finance denied that Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati would meet Cristiano Ronaldo.
