TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pakistan announced that it had shot down 77 Israel-made drones launched by India on Friday, May 9, 2025. The drone shooting took place before the ceasefire between India and Pakistan mediated by the United States on Saturday, May 10, 2025.

Military spokesperson Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry announced the shooting down of the Indian drones during a press conference discussing the military situation in the region. According to the local newspaper Dawn, as cited by the Middle East Monitor, Chaudhry confirmed that the number of casualties due to the Indian attacks has increased to 33, and the number of injured has reached 62. He accused India of deliberate attacks targeting civilian areas.

In response to India's allegations that Pakistani aircraft had been shot down or that Pakistan had launched attacks within Indian territory, Chaudhry said India must show the wreckage of at least one aircraft if its claims are to be believed.

He revealed that the Pakistani army did not lose any of its soldiers in the clashes between the two countries, although there were casualties among its troops. Chaudhry sent a message to India, saying, Pakistan will fulfill India's request at a time, place, and method of Pakistan.

Pakistan and India announced on Saturday, May 10, 2025, that they had agreed to an immediate ceasefire. The announcement came after four days of military exchanges.

United States President Donald Trump announced that India and Pakistan had agreed to a full ceasefire. The ceasefire began after negotiations mediated by the U.S. This happened after Pakistan fired a missile at a military location in India in retaliation for India's attack on an airbase.

Trump, who has announced through Truth Social, as reported by Sky News, that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire.

Although the timing of the announcement was unexpected, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had been in regular phone calls with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Indian Foreign Minister since late April. Rubio had posted on X to confirm the ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
