TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Presidential Palace has expressed concerns over recent developments following a series of corruption arrests targeting state officials.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi voiced sorrow over the back-to-back arrests of Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Affairs Silmy Karim and former chief of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Dadan Hindayana on separate graft charges. "Truthfully, over these past two days, we have been deeply concerned by repeated incidents that we certainly did not expect," Prasetyo told reporters on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
According to him, President Prabowo Subianto has repeatedly warned his subordinates to steer clear of corrupt practices while executing their duties. "Without fail, on various occasions, the President always issues this reminder," the Gerindra Party politician noted.
The government, Prasetyo added, respects the ongoing legal process. He also expressed hope that the naming of suspects and the detention of officials would not disrupt public services.
"With regard to the portfolios held by those facing legal proceedings, they will be promptly addressed in accordance with applicable laws and regulations," Prasetyo stated.
Dadan Hindayana was declared a corruption suspect within the BGN by the Attorney General’s Office on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. Just a day later, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named Silmy Karim a suspect in a graft case embedded within the Directorate General of Immigration.
Silmy is suspected of involvement in corruption related to the issuance and management of residence permits for foreign nationals. The KPK alleges that the illicit activities occurred during his tenure as Director General of Immigration from 2023 to 2024.
Meanwhile, Dadan Hindayana had been removed from his post at the helm of the BGN a mere 24 hours before being taken into custody by the Attorney General's Office. Dadan was dismissed alongside two other senior BGN officials: former deputy chief, retired police Inspector General Sony Sanjaya, and retired military Lieutenant General Lodewyk Pusung.
The Attorney General’s Office has since designated all three former officials as formal suspects in the ongoing corruption probe. Dadan’s previous seat as the head of the BGN has been filled by Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, who previously served as the agency's deputy chief.
