TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto is set to dismiss Silmy Karim from his post as Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Affairs. State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi announced the move after Silmy was named a suspect in a corruption case and subsequently detained by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

The government, Prasetyo stated, respects the ongoing legal process. "Regarding positions held by individuals currently undergoing legal proceedings, immediate follow-up actions will be taken in accordance with prevailing laws," he told reporters on Thursday, June 4, 2026.

According to Prasetyo, the Presidential Palace has coordinated with Immigration and Correctional Affairs Minister Agus Andrianto. The Palace has sought assurances that Silmy Karim’s detention will not disrupt the immigration and correctional services.

The KPK highlighted allegations of corruption regarding the management of residence permits for foreign nationals, which reportedly implicated Silmy Karim during his tenure as Director General of Immigration from 2023 to 2024. KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo noted that investigators uncovered an alleged chain of command and illicit financial receipts during that period.

These findings served as part of the basis for the anti-graft agency to elevate the case from the investigation stage to prosecution and to name eight suspects. "The alleged command lines and illicit receipts occurred during the tenure of the individual concerned (Silmy) as Director General," Budi explained at the KPK’s Red and White Building in South Jakarta on Thursday, June 4, 2026.

The KPK executed a series of sting operations across Jakarta, Bandung, and Bali on June 2–3, 2026. During the crackdown, investigators apprehended 18 individuals. Budi added that the KPK conducted a formal case review on Wednesday night before deciding to upgrade the status of the case to a full investigation.

Following the review of the evidence, the KPK designated eight individuals as suspects. Among them is Silmy Karim, who is currently serving as the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Affairs. "Then, based on the sufficiency of evidence, the KPK has named eight suspects out of the 18 individuals apprehended during the sting operations," Budi concluded.
