TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian national football team coach Patrick Kluivert has participated in several agendas since his arrival in Jakarta on Saturday, February 1, 2025, one of which was scouting players and observing game methods through League 1.
Alongside Alex Pastoor, Denny Landzaat, and Gerald Vanenburg, Kluivert watched the match between Jakarta’s Persija and PSBS Biak in Bekasi on Sunday, accompanied by Indonesian national team football manager Sumardji.
“All four of them saw firsthand to scout the talents. We will call some players to join the national team. Each of them has quite a good first impression,” Sumardji told reporters at the parliament complex on Monday, February 3, 2025.
Sumardji said that the players competing in League 1 will be screened directly by Kluivert to join the Garuda squad. “They are planning to call up several players from Persija and PSBS Biak,” he said. “I know the names but I’m not going to reveal them right now. We will watch the game between Dewa United and Persija next.”
This is the first time Kluivert has watched a League 1 game after his introduction as the new Garuda Team coach in late January. PSSI’s Erick Thohir said last month that Kluivert has some work to do besides facing the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, including finding local players.
Patrick Kluivert officially became the coach of the Indonesian national team on Sunday, January 12. He’s been busy since the start, meeting with some national team players, PSSI administrators, and visiting the Indonesian U-20 national team training camp in Jakarta.
