PGA Tour golfer Alejandro Tosti was left to carry his own bag on Thursday after his caddie walked out on him in the middle of his round.
Argentine Tosti, 30, was participating in the first round of the Biltmore Championship Asheville on Thursday in North Carolina, when the bizarre circumstances unfolded.
Tosti was playing the 18th hole of The Cliffs at Walnut Cove – his ninth of the day after starting on the 10th tee – when his caddie Cliff Ellis unceremoniously dropped the bag and decided to call it a day.
It is unclear exactly why the meltdown occurred, but Tosti was level par and was enjoying a positive day on the course when he lost his right-hand man.
When asked for a comment over text by GolfWeek, Tosti replied: 'He couldn't keep up with eight pars in a row', alongside three sideways laughing emojis.
Tosti is a notoriously feisty character on the PGA Tour and he has burned through caddies in recent years.

On Thursday, though, it appeared he was fine by himself as he continued his round and carded a one-over-par 72.
The PGA Tour star was previously reported to have cursed repeatedly at his then-caddie Ray Yoel during a Korn Ferry Tour event in 2023.
Earlier this year at the Valspar Championship, meanwhile, he used his caddie for a more humorous endeavor, replacing his name on the back of the bagman's bib with 'NEED A WIFE' – seemingly in an attempt to find love in the crowd.
Tosti heads into this week's PGA Tour tournament at No 186 in the FedEx Cup Fall standings, and it is as yet unclear whether he will have found himself a new caddie in time for Friday's second round.

He is once again playing alongside the American pair of Luke Clanton and Spencer Oxendine, but the trio has a later tee time of 1:49pm for their second round.
Tosti is tied 103rd on the leaderboard and in need of some birdies if he is to make the cut and play at the weekend.
At the top end of the standings, meanwhile, Irishman Seamus Power stormed into the lead with three early birdies on Friday morning.
