TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Papua Police Chief Inspector General Patrige Renwarin stated that Aske Mabel was involved in several attacks since fleeing the police force with four organic firearms from the Yalimo Police Resort, Papua Highlands, in mid-2024. Patrige stated that Aske was at least involved in 10 attacks and killed six people.

Aske Mabel held the rank of Police Brigadier Second Class when fleeing and absconding with four organic firearms of the Polri's AK 47 type. This police deserter is suspected of joining the West Papua National Liberation Army-Free Papua Movement (TPNPB-OPM).

"Aske Mabel was involved in 10 cases that resulted in the deaths of six people," stated Patrige in a written statement on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

Patrige mentioned that one of Aske's attack victims was a member of the Mobile Brigade Police Unit (Brimob) who was part of the Damai Cartenz task force, Briptu Iqbal Anwar Arif. Iqbal was reported killed by gunfire on January 17, 2025 while on duty in Yalimo Regency, Papua Mountains.

Head of Damai Cartenz task force, Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani, stated that the attack occurred between November 2024 and January 2025. The first attack resulting in casualties took place on November 5, 2024. In the attack on the Trans Jayapura-Wamena Road in Elelim District, one civilian named Muktar Layuk was reported killed.

Faizal stated that on November 8, 2024, Aske Mabel also attempted to murder a civilian named Ronal Mangiwa. A week later, on November 19, 2024, Aske allegedly set fire to PT AMU located in Kampung Hobakma, Elelim District, Yalimo. Then on December 13, 2024, he also set fire to a shop owned by Suwoko.

"On January 1, 2025, Aske also set fire to the Elelim District office," said Faizal.

Aske Mabel was officially dismissed from Polri on December 27, 2024. Previously, he had fled with four firearms on June 9, 2024. After Aske Mabel fled, a video declaring himself as the Commander of Kodap Balim Timur Yali-Yalimo circulated.

During his association with the KKB, Aske Mabel's group was involved in various criminal activities in Yalimo, including the murder of two loggers in Elelim District on January 8, 2025 and the shooting of Satgas Damai Cartenz member Briptu Iqbal Anwar Arif near PT AMO, Yalimo, on January 17, 2025.

Aske Mabel's movements ceased after the police arrested him on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at 06:30 WIT (Eastern Indonesian Time). The police incapacitated Aske by shooting his right leg. He is currently detained at the Papua Police Mobile Brigade Headquarters.

Aside from Aske, the police also arrested Nikson Matuan on February 2. Nikson, he said, was a member of Aske's group involved in carrying out several attacks in Yalimo. When apprehended, the police also confiscated two stolen firearms carried by Aske when he fled from the Yalimo Police Resort.
