TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police have identified four suspects in the acid attack targeting Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS). Jakarta Police Director of General Crime Investigation, Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, revealed that the suspects operated in pairs on two separate motorcycles.
Iman explained that the perpetrators had been stalking Andrie since he left the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) office. The tail continued as the victim stopped to refuel at a Cikini Raya gas station around 11:35 p.m.
"The victim did not head immediately to the scene, but first refueled at the Cikini Raya gas station, with the perpetrators following," Iman said during a press conference at the Jakarta South Metro Jaya Police Headquarters on Monday, March 16, 2026.
The four individuals waited for the victim at a KFC in Cikini, located just one building from the gas station. They then followed him toward Jalan Diponegoro and eventually to the intersection of Jalan Salemba 1 and Jalan Talang, where the acid attack occurred.
"We obtained clear CCTV footage, which greatly assists our investigation and prosecution processes," Iman noted.
After the assault, the suspects allegedly fled in different directions. One motorcycle traveled against the flow of traffic on Jalan Salemba toward Senen, eventually moving through Jalan Kramat Raya and Tugu Tani toward South Jakarta.
The second motorcycle headed toward Jalan Pramuka Sari II and Matraman. "From Matraman, CCTVs monitored it heading to Jatinegara, then toward Jalan DI Panjaitan in East Jakarta," Iman said.
Communication network analysis suggests the suspects later scattered to three locations: Kalibata, Ragunan, and Bogor.
Unidentified individuals attacked Andrie Yunus with acid on Jalan Talang, Salemba, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night, March 12, 2026. KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya stated that Andrie suffered burns over 24 percent of his body. Six specialists, including those for eyes, EENT, nerves, bones, thorax, internal organs, and skin, are treating the victim.
According to the KontraS chronology, Andrie was riding his motorcycle on Jalan Salemba I - Talang. Two men on a motorcycle, allegedly a 2016-2021 Honda Beat, approached him from the opposite direction.
The suspected perpetrators were two men acting as driver and passenger. KontraS reported the driver wore a white and blue t-shirt, jeans, and a black helmet.
The passenger wore a black "buff" covering half his face, a dark blue t-shirt, and folded denim jeans.
One perpetrator sprayed acid at Andrie, hitting his body and causing him to fall from his motorcycle in pain. The incident left Andrie with serious injuries to his hands, face, chest, and eyes.
KontraS found no missing or stolen belongings following the attack. The incident took place shortly after Andrie recorded a podcast at the YLBHI office titled "Remilitarism and Judicial Review in Indonesia," which ended around 11:00 PM.
