TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Sunday, May 25, 2025, at around 10:00 WIB (Western Indonesian Time). Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media of the Presidential Secretariat Yusuf Permana said that Li Qiang's arrival at the Merdeka Palace began with a welcoming ceremony.

"President Prabowo and Premier Li Qiang will hold a bilateral meeting with delegations from each country," he said in an official statement on Sunday, May 25, 2025.

After the meeting, Yusuf said, the two leaders plan to witness the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two countries. Followed by the delivery of a joint press statement regarding a number of discussion points that were discussed during the meeting.

In addition to meeting with President Prabowo, Premier Li Qiang is also scheduled to hold several internal meetings while in Jakarta. Indonesia and China have established diplomatic relations for more than seven decades, with cooperation that continues to develop dynamically in various sectors.

"This visit is expected to further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries," said Yusuf.

Meanwhile, Li Qiang arrived at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 15:21 WIB. Premier Li Qiang's presence in the country marks the start of an official visit that is planned to last for three days from May 24 to 26, 2025.

Prabowo Subianto previously emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership between Indonesia and the People's Republic of China (PRC) in creating regional peace and stability. The Head of State views that the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and China is very strategic and promising.

"I view the relationship between Indonesia and China as a very strategic, very important, and very promising bilateral relationship that can determine the state of peace and stability in our region," said President Prabowo in his remarks at the Indonesia-China Business Reception 2025 held at the Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta, on Saturday, May 24, 2025, quoted from an official statement.

In his remarks, the President also recalled the extraordinary respect he received when he first visited China, even before being officially inaugurated as President of the Republic of Indonesia. "Also after I was inaugurated, maybe less than three weeks, the first country I officially visited as President of the Republic of Indonesia was the People's Republic of China," he said.

The President also appreciated the noble values in Chinese civilization that emphasize the principles of mutual benefit and harmony. He also expressed his determination to continue strengthening cooperative relations with China as Indonesia's largest trading partner.

"Our trade has exceeded 130 billion US dollars each year. And we view China as a very important partner in our industrial and technological development," said the President.

According to him, a number of major projects of cooperation between Indonesia and Chinese companies have been successfully carried out, ranging from trade to technology. The President also expressed his appreciation for Chinese companies that have created jobs and encouraged technology transfer, as well as demonstrated adjustments to Indonesia's national interests.

In the President's view, cooperation between Indonesia and China does not have to be limited to the economic sector alone. However, the President said that relations between Indonesia and China can be broader in cooperation in many fields.
