TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto departed for to Kalimantan today, August 22, to personally inspect sites affected by forest and land fires. Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that Prabowo will directly oversee operations to combat the wildfires across the region.
"On Saturday morning, August 22, 2026, President Prabowo flew directly to Kalimantan to inspect conditions and lead response efforts against forest and land fires in Kalimantan," Teddy said in a written statement on Saturday.
Teddy explained that on Friday, August 21, President Prabowo issued orders and assigned tasks to military and police leadership to directly tackle forest fires in four affected provinces across Kalimantan. "This division of labor was implemented to ensure ground operations proceed more rapidly, comprehensively, and simultaneously," Teddy said.
President Prabowo assigned Indonesian National Armed Forces Commander General Agus Subiyanto and Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to lead fire management efforts in West Kalimantan.
Meanwhile, operations in Central Kalimantan are headed by Army Chief of Staff Gen. Maruli Simanjuntak alongside Police Deputy Chief Comr. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo. In South Kalimantan, the President deployed Navy Chief of Staff Adm. Muhammad Ali together with National Police Assistant Chief of Operations Com. Gen. Muhammad Fadil Imran.
For East Kalimantan, Armed Forces Deputy Com. Gen. Tandyo Budi Revita and Mobile Brigade Corps Commander Comr. Gen. Ramdani Hidayat were appointed to directly direct fire containment efforts on the ground.
According to Teddy, President Prabowo instructed that all response efforts be carried out as swiftly and effectively as possible. As a result, the blazes can be quickly extinguished, allowing residents in affected areas to safely resume their daily routines.
"The President also demanded that any legal violations found during the process be strictly addressed in accordance with applicable laws," Teddy added.
