Prabowo 'Mournful' Over BGN Overhaul as Former Leaders Arrested

15 hours ago 31

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto said it was not easy for him to overhaul the leadership structure at the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). The president removed Dadan Hindayana as BGN chief late Tuesday, and appointed Nanik Sudaryati Deyang to replace him during the same occasion.

Meanwhile, the two deputy positions previously held by Inspector General (Ret.) Sony Sanjaya and Lieutenant General (Ret.) TNI Lodewyk Pusung are now held by Agustina Arumsari and Major General TNI Trenggono.

Prabowo expressed this while addressing a national consolidation meeting of the free nutritious meal (MBG) program in Sentul, Bogor, West Java.

"I can't hide that I'm mournful, as I was forced to replace people whom I genuinely care for, people I trust, people I have entrusted with a very heavy responsibility for the country," said Prabowo on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, as quoted in a video shared by the Presidential Secretariat.

Prabowo admitted that he had been receiving reports about leadership issues at the agency tasked with overseeing the free meal program, before deciding to overhaul BGN's leadership structure. "There were shortcomings, oddities, and indications of unlawfulness from its leaders," he said.

Nevertheless, Prabowo said he did not wish to make further comments about the ongoing legal process to avoid presumptions of presidential intervention in law enforcement.

"I don't want to comment much since they are facing a legal investigation. I could appear to influence the case if I do so, but one thing for certain is it was not easy to replace them," said Prabowo, referring to the three former leaders of BGN, who have been detained on corruption charges on Wednesday afternoon.

Deputy Director of Special Crimes Investigation at the Attorney General's Office Syarief Sulaiman Nahdi stated that the investigators would detain the three for the next 20 days. "At Salemba prisons at the Attorney General's Office and the South Jakarta District Attorney's Office," said Syarief at the Attorney General's Office on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

The investigators escorted Dadan, Sony, and Lodewyk to the detention vehicle wearing light pink prisoner vests. The three chose to remain silent when the media asked questions.

The three were named suspects less than 24 hours after their dismissal from BGN. Syarief stated that the suspects allegedly control several foundation managing nutrition service units (SPPG) or MBG kitchens through other parties to gain profits unlawfully.

In addition, AGO investigators found allegations of irregularities in several procurement projects at the BGN. According to Syarief, the suspects intervened with the Commitment Making Officer (PPK), causing the preparation of the Work Reference Framework (KAK) for the procurement of goods and services at the BGN not to be in accordance with actual needs in the field and leading to alleged price mark-ups.
