TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto officially inaugurates elected regional heads at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Thursday, February 20, 2025. Prabowo inaugurates a total of 961 regional heads, consisting of 33 governors and 33 vice governors, 363 regents, 362 deputy regents, 85 mayors, and 85 deputy mayors.
Prabowo had previously asked the elected regional leaders for their willingness to take the oath. The elected regional leaders simultaneously expressed their willingness.
"Are you all willing to take the oath according to your faith?" Prabowo asked.
"Yes, we are," the regional leaders said in unison.
Prabowo then requested the regional heads to take the oath of office according to their respective religious oaths.
Prabowo also asked the elected regional leaders to follow his words. The core of the speech was to urge the regional leaders to commit to carrying out their duties and to follow the constitution obediently. Here is the oath they recited:
"I solemnly swear to fulfill my duties as governor, vice governor, regent, vice regent, mayor, or vice mayor to the best of my ability and with utmost fairness. I pledge to uphold the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, faithfully implement all laws and regulations, and dedicate myself to the people, the nation, and the country."
Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media of the Presidential Secretariat Yusuf Permana previously stated that this inauguration was the first to be held simultaneously at the Presidential Palace.
He also mentioned that this inauguration marked a new chapter in the governance of regional government in Indonesia.
"Prior to the inauguration, the regional heads will first participate in a procession from the National Monument to the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta," he said.
Based on a copy of the rundown received by Tempo, the inauguration procession will take place on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at the State Palace starting at 10:00 AM WIB.
Before being inaugurated, all regional heads were first gathered in the front yard of the National Monument, before finally entering the Palace area in formation accompanied by the Gita Praja IPDN Drum Band.
