TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has issued a strong message to his administration regarding the widespread issue of MinyaKita products that fail to meet market standards. He emphasized that no individual or entity should exploit the public's hardship for personal gain.

This message was delivered during a closed-door meeting on food security and basic commodity price stability at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. Sudaryono, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and an attendee at the meeting, revealed the President's firm stance.

"The President's message is clear: no one should profit from the public's distress. Do not seek momentary profit at the expense of the people," Sudaryono said in his official remarks.

The Gerindra Party official stressed that every citizen has the right to access quality MinyaKita. Therefore, the government will pursue legal action against fraudulent practices in its distribution.

Several companies have already been reported to the police following instances of manipulating the volume of the subsidized cooking oil. President Prabowo also asserted during the meeting that no one is above the law, expressing his hope that these government measures will deter future offenders.

Previously, Moga Simatupang, Director General of Consumer Protection and Trade Order at the Ministry of Trade, announced that the government would recall all substandard MinyaKita products from the market. This was declared during a press conference held by the National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, concerning the enforcement of consumer protection criminal acts.

"According to the Trade Minister's Regulation Number 18 of 2024 on Packaged Cooking Oil and the Governance of the People's Cooking Oil, producers who violate these provisions will face enforcement measures, including the withdrawal of their products from distribution," Moga explained in his official statement.

Moga explained that the recall process will be conducted in stages. Producers suspected of violations will receive two written warnings, each with a maximum compliance period of seven working days. If these warnings are ignored, the government will temporarily suspend sales activities, close storage facilities, seize products from distribution, and potentially revoke business licenses.

He further clarified that manipulating product content and volume also breaches Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection. This law stipulates that offenders can be sentenced to a maximum of five years in prison or fined up to Rp2 billion. "In cases of product discrepancies, consumers are entitled to a refund or replacement," Moga concluded.
