TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto ordered the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia to ensure that subsidized 3-kilogram liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) can still be sold by retailers. Previously, the government banned retail sales of 3-kilogram LPG as of February 1, 2025.
The information was conveyed by the Daily Chair of the Gerindra Party, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad. "The President has instructed the Ministry of ESDM to reactivate existing retailers to sell as usual today," said Dasco at the Senayan parliamentary complex, Jakarta on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
Since early February 2025, the government has stipulated that sales of 3-kg subsidized LPG will no longer be sold at retailers. The public can only buy it at official Pertamina bases with the highest retail price (HET) that has been set.
According to Dasco, later 3-kilogram LPG retailers must register as sub-bases in order to sell the green gas cylinders. However, Prabowo wants retailers to still be able to sell 3-kilogram LPG gas during the partial sub-base agent registration process.
In addition, Dasco said that Prabowo also asked the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to keep the price of 3-kilogram LPG gas stable. "Then process the administration and others, so that retailers as sub-base agents, the price of LPG that will be sold to the public is not too expensive," said the Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives.
Since early February 2025, the government has determined that the sale of 3 kg subsidized LPG will no longer be sold at retailers. The public can only buy it at official Pertamina bases with the highest retail price (HET) that has been set.
ESDM Minister Bahlil Lahadalia previously planned to transfer 3 kg LPG retailers to a status he called a sub-base. This step was taken as an effort to control the circulation of the melon gas in the community. "Retailers, in order to control it, we will upgrade it to a sub-base, the requirements are not difficult," he said when met at the DPR Building, Monday, February 3, 2025.
According to him, the option of changing retailers to sub-bases is a middle ground between the rejection of several parties and the government's efforts to regulate distribution. "So that this is easy for everyone. Retailers can get their way, the government and Pertamina can control this 3 kg LPGs," said Bahlil at the ESDM Ministerial Working Meeting at the DPR, Monday, February 3, 2025. "If the retailers are good, we will give them temporary permission, we will upgrade their status to a sub-base, free of charge."
