TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Indonesia, Sergei Tolchenov, stated that Indonesia has promised to send warships to participate in the Russian Navy Day parade in St. Petersburg in July.
"Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has promised President Vladimir Putin to send Indonesian warships to participate in the main military ship parade in St. Petersburg," Ambassador Tolchenov said in a press conference at the Russian Embassy residence in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
Russia celebrates Navy Day on the last Sunday of July every year. This year, the celebration coincides with July 27, 2025.
Although Indonesia has promised to participate in the event, Tolchenov still cannot confirm whether Indonesia will send one or several of its military fleets. "We would be very happy to see Indonesian ships sailing in Russian waters," he said.
Furthermore, Tolchenov stated that the relationship between the Russian and Indonesian Navies is very close. He exemplified this good relationship when the Russian Navy participated in the Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo 2025 (MNEK) in the waters off Bali some time ago.
Tolchenov said the Russian Navy was the second largest naval delegation to participate in the joint exercise after the Indonesian Navy. "In that exercise, we sent three warships, two corvettes, and one military supply ship," he said.
Reported by Antara, besides MNEK 2025, the Indonesian and Russian navies also conducted the Orruda joint exercise in Surabaya on November 4-8. This exercise was the first joint exercise held by the two countries' navies.
In that exercise, the Russian Navy sent two of its corvettes, RFS Gromky and RFS Aldar Tsydenzhapov, one frigate RFS Rezkiy, one medium tanker RFS Pechenga, one KA-27 helicopter, and a tug salvage ship Alatau.
