TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated that judges should no longer live in rented rooms or boarding houses. Prabowo admitted that he understood the heavy burden on judges, as every citizen relies on their decisions.
"Today I am once again convinced that the quality of life for our judges must be the best. I also received reports that many of our judges do not have official residences. Many of them still live in boarding houses, this should not happen. Is the finance minister here?" Prabowo said during a special session delivering the annual report of Indonesia's Supreme Court at the Supreme Court building in Central Jakarta, Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
Therefore, Prabowo promised to work with the legislative body to improve the quality of judges.
In the report, Chief Justice Sunarto revealed that the number of cases handled by the court throughout 2024 was 31,138. This consisted of 30,991 incoming cases, along with 147 remaining cases from 2023.
"This number increased by 13.18 percent compared to 2023, which received 27,512 cases," he said.
Sunarto stated that the increased workload was handled by 45 Supreme Court judges.
For handling cases of Corruption Crimes (Tipikor) and Industrial Relations Disputes (PHI), in addition to Supreme Court judges, these cases were handled by 9 ad hoc judges, consisting of 4 Tipikor ad hoc judges and 5 PHI ad hoc judges. Thus, the average workload per Supreme Court judge in one year was 2,076 case files.
Throughout 2024, the Supreme Court decided on 30,908 cases. This number increased by 12.95 percent compared to 2023, which decided on 27,365 cases.
With this data, the productivity ratio of resolving cases in 2024 reached 99.26 percent. This data indicates that the number of unresolved cases at the end of 2024 was less than 1 percent, or only 0.74 percent.
"The Supreme Court successfully maintained a productivity ratio of resolving cases above 99 percent and the remainder below 1 percent for five years," said Sunarto.
Regarding the case settlement, the Supreme Court has completed recording the cases and sent copies of the decisions to the filing courts for a total of 31,162 cases.
This number increased by 9.64 percent compared to 2023, which amounted to 28,422 cases.
