TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said the government will use funds from the budget cuts for the Free Nutritious Meals program. The General Chairperson of the Gerindra Party said that Rp24 trillion will be used for the continuation of the MBG.
"I was forced to use Rp24 trillion for Free Nutritious Meals. Our people, our children, must not starve," Prabowo said while giving a speech at the 17th Anniversary Celebration of the Gerindra Party at the Sentul International Convention Center (SICC), Bogor, West Java, Saturday, February 15, 2025.
Prabowo further explained that the government is currently making budget savings in two stages with a total fundraising projected to reach Rp608 trillion, consisting of first stage savings of Rp300 trillion and second stage savings of Rp308 trillion.
"What's currently popular is savings. The first round of savings by the Ministry of Finance was combed, saving Rp300 trillion. The second round of savings was Rp308 trillion, BUMN dividends of Rp300 trillion, Rp100 trillion was returned, so in total we have Rp750 trillion," said Prabowo.
Prabowo said he wanted Indonesian children to be able to eat good food. "If there are children of rich people who already eat well, that's okay, you give your share to someone else, if you don't want to, don't worry, our children must eat well," he said.
President Prabowo Subianto previously issued a budget savings policy stipulated in Presidential Instruction Number 1 of 2025 concerning Efficiency of the 2025 State Budget and Regional Budget Spending. Through this presidential instruction, ministries and institutions experienced budget cuts.
